Celebrating 50 years at Jeffery’s!
Employee Thomas Henry Fouracre started working for Jeffery’s shovelling coal into sacks in 1962 when he was just 16 years old earning just £2 a week. Jeffery’s was the only business down St John’s Lane & the railway was still in operation.
Back in those days Jeffery’s was just one of four coal businesses in Bovey Tracey. Tom remembers the furthest they used to deliver coal was 10 to 15 miles unlike today when they now deliver coal over 100 miles away.
When Derrick Shrubb bought the business in 1985 Tom was taught to drive and sent out to deliver coal as far as Bristol!
Tom feels he has been very lucky in his career with Jeffery’s over the last 50 years, he feels he has had very good work mates and employers who have given him confidence & helped him out when he has needed it.
Tom is now retiring but we are sure this isn’t the last we have seen of him!
