Basic tips for lighting a real fire
- Screw up several sheets of paper, laying them on the fire grate
- Lay kindling wood on top of the paper, or two or three firelighters
- Light paper or firelighters
- Keep a good constant draught until the fire is well alight
- As fuel catches alight, add more fuel until the fire is the required size
Always use a safety guard, keep chimneys and flue areas clear and ensure appliances are well maintained and have adequate ventilation.
